An alumnus of the Art Academy as well as a familiar figure about town, Charlie spent ten summers (from '63 to '73) studying under Henry Hensche at the Cape School of Art. His works portray many characters of the streets of Memphis as well as the establish- ments that they haunted, and his paintings have been treasured since the early 60's.
